FNX-INNOV is in the 3D race and using BIM

Projet BIM vignette

Our Water Treatment, Structure, Electricity, Building Mechanics, Civil and Surveying teams were able to demonstrate, within the framework of the Saint-Hyacinthe wastewater treatment plant upgrade project, how FNX-INNOV possesses all the tools and skills to be on the lookout for new methods of carrying out engineering projects such as BIM.

BIM (Building Information Modeling) is a new method of carrying out engineering projects, based on a 3D digital model containing reliable and structured data. 3D is now an essential tool and there has been a lot of excitement in the design field in recent years with the use of this method. The information in the 3D models is more and more exploited and requested by the customers in the projects.

A contractual requirement from the City of Saint-Hyacinthe

The City of Saint-Hyacinthe’s wastewater treatment plant upgrade project demonstrated the teams’ know-how in using 3D for the design of new infrastructures. This was in fact a contractual requirement from the client for the new buildings. Our water treatment, structural, electrical, building mechanics and civil teams combined their expertise for the design, ergonomic verification, coordination and production of plans and specifications. While our surveying department produced 3D topographic surveys and point cloud surveys (laser scan) which were very useful for modeling the existing water treatment components.

Better efficiency and fewer conflicts

3D offers several advantages that allow for greater efficiency. In the project with the City of Saint-Hyacinthe, it allowed us to validate the layout and arrangement of the new equipment, to see the safety aspects for the plant’s operating personnel, and to visualize the spaces for maintenance and traffic around the equipment. It became clear that many conflicts were eliminated early in the construction phase through the use of this technology.

This is a great way to demonstrate our openness to change and novelty, which is an integral part of one of our company’s core values: innovation.
