Field Perspective episode 8 :
The ”Marais de la Meder”
This is the 8th episode of our Field Perspective series, in which we unveil video capsules that illustrate the diversity and innovation of our projects. For this episode, our film crew travelled to the Coaticook MRC to bring you footage from the “Marais de la Meder” restoration project, whose aim was to ensure the sustainability of the wetland’s flora and fauna habitats.
The “Marais de la Meder” project was designed to restore the ecological functions of this wetland located in the town of Coaticook. The work involved reconnecting the marsh to the “Ruisseau de la Meder” using a weir to maintain a stable water level throughout the year. We corrected the water retention dike, which dated back to 1957 and had been damaged over time. Among other things, our teams carried out a geotechnical study, drew up plans and specifications, assisted the MRC in obtaining permits and provided site supervision. Pascal Quesnel, Project Manager, Planning and Environment Department, and Marie-Claude Bernard, Planning Coordinator, MRC de Coaticook, explain in greater detail what this project is all about, with the help of beautiful images provided by our drone pilot, Steve Simard, survey technician at FNX-INNOV.
To find out more about the project and wetland restoration, listen to Marie-Claude Bernard’s interview (in french only) on Radio-Canada (15h22.):
